Join the Vibrant Community: Teaching Art in Spanish Facebook Group

When you are teaching art in Spanish class, do you ever find yourself asking these questions:

  1. Which artists should I be teaching about other than Kahlo, Rivera, Picasso, and Dali?
  2. How can I enhance my lessons so they are more than just looking at paintings?
  3. Will all of my students, even those that don’t like art, enjoy these lessons?

I have asked myself these questions countless times when planning my art units, creating art resources, and even designing an art module for a course called Hispanic Pop Culture. But I never had many people to bounce ideas off of. I longed for a community of Spanish teachers who love art! After all, my first degree is in Arts Administration!

That is why I created the Teaching Art in Spanish Facebook Group! I wanted to connect with a community of Spanish teachers who would inspire one another and share ideas.

Teaching art is my absolute favorite unit, no doubt about it! And you can learn how I structure my art unit here. Since I began teaching in 2016, I have been gathering my favorite resources to teach art and I want to share them with you!

Take a look at some of my favorite posts I have shared so far on the Art in Spanish FB Group:

  • How to use your 5 senses to analyze Dali’s Persistence of Memory
  • Pictures of my high school Spanish Club trip to Sarchí, Costa Rica to paint oxcart wheels
  • How to celebrate Salvador Dalí;s birthday in class
  • Tips for using silent gallery walks to interpret art
  • Fun questions to ask your students as a bellringer – Which crayola color is your favorite?
  • This or that? Which painting do you like more?

  • Ways to incorporate art even into “non-art” units like la casa, la escuela, la comida, etc.
  • Tips for analyzing art with students
  • Videos, podcasts, and articles that you can use with your students

You can see that I have devoted hours upon hours to creating lesson plans for artists like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Salvador Dali, and Pablo Picasso. I designed a virtual Hispanic art gallery to make teaching art as authentic as possible. And I even created an art escape room!

But this is not just a Facebook group where I share information and resources. This is a COMMUNITY. It relies on ALL members sharing resources, tips, artwork, lesson plans, etc.

When I was teaching in the classroom, lesson planning with my colleagues was the highlight of my day. We collaborated effortlessly to design some of the best lessons I have ever taught. And to be completely honest, the lessons would not have been the same without the ideas of another teacher.
